North Mountain Park Birding
A quaint location full of must-see’s. North Mountain Park is a wonderful location on Bear Creek, has walking paths, gardens, and a Nature Center – which hosts a variety of nature education programs, including birding outings. The birding is excellent due to the nearby creek and a pond on the opposite side of Mountain Ave at Riverwalk Park.
Common Merganser, American Kestral, Red-tailed Hawk, Acorn Woodpecker, Northern flicker, Red-breasted Sapsucker, Killdeer, Red-winged Blackbird, Canada Goose, Great Blue Heron. Spring/Summer: Western Kingbird, Yellow-breasted Chat, Swainson’s Thrush, Western Tanager, Sparrows: Song/Golden-crowned/White-crowned, Warblers: Wilson’s/Yellow/Orange-crowned. Spring migration: Cedar Waxwing.
Directions: From downtown Ashland, head southeast on Siskiyou Blvd. Turn left onto Mountain Avenue (a small brown sign will point you downhill: “N. Mountain Park Nature Center ←”). The entrance to the park is on the right hand side near a baseball diamond.
